IB publication typesetting

Project type:

As Senior Production Editor for the International Baccalaureate, I wore a variety of hats — from project manager to production artist — depending on the type of publication.

In the case of curriculum guides (pictured), I typeset the long-form documents in InDesign, including formatting tables and redrawing diagrams, following the requirements in the house style guide. This process began in Microsoft Word, ensuring the manuscript was correctly styled and formatted before flowing the text into InDesign. Once completed, I exported the guides as PDFs, once with the proper settings for print and once for online publication. The online PDF was tagged and finalized in Adobe Acrobat. (The guides were also converted to XML, and I was also responsible for tagging and formatting those.)

Fun fact: The IB publishes each guide in English, Spanish, and French, and sometimes as many as 7 languages. I became quite adept at proofreading in languages I don’t speak!
