For the final project in my Typography course at the University of Baltimore,I designed the brand identity for a fictional bar/laundromat catering to college students in Baltimore, Maryland.
Laundry is literally a chore, so I wanted simple imagery and a bright color to make it feel young and hip. I also decided on a memorable slogan to explain the hybrid concept of the venue.
I made laundry symbols into cocktail glasses (using a slash character as the straw, because it was a typography class, after all). Cyan evokes the color of laundry detergent. The numbers in the logo tie in with the loyalty card, and including “over 21” in the slogan makes you think of alcohol consumption and answers an obvious FAQ simultaneously.
